As you came across this page, you were probably wondering, "What is SCIP essentially?" SCIP: the Selective Corporate Internship Program, directed by Monica and Miguel Mancebo, provides middle-, and high school students as well at those at the undergraduate level the opportunity to dip their toes into the corporate world. This non-profit organization helps determined students jumpstart their careers by exposing them to a myriad of jobs and departments. The current SCIP middle- and high school program, hosts students who want to pursue careers as Financial analysts, Aeronautical engineers, Stockmarket brokers, Journalists, and more.
Why spend the summer working when you can be relaxing by the pool, or playing Pokemon Go? The experience that SCIP offers is like none-other. Just imagine the reaction you will get from a college admissions officer when they see you spent your summer interning like a corporate. SCIP is not mere clerical work or in your typical office setting. Hosted at Microsoft, at 11 Times Square, young leaders have access to state-of-the-art technology and facilities for which they use to complete projects similar to those assigned at Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, and Mitchell Titus. SCIP makes the transition from highschool student to college intern, a smooth and enjoyable process by providing etiquette training, communication workshops, mock interviews, and more. Weekly trips are part of the Monday through Thursday work-week to places such as Toshiba, Credit Suisse, JP Morgan Chase, Mitchell Titus, Microsoft, and even to places such as the American Indian Museum, the MoMA, Governor's Island, Wall Street, and the Golf Course to have tri-state students become immersed in the culture around them.
SCIP is not just another summer program. Monica and Miguel stay connected with their young leaders and alumni during the year, and provide extraordinary opportunities such as internships at a multitude of companies.
The environment at SCIP is truly warm. Monica and Miguel treat the young leaders as their own, and call the youngsters their family. Never have we come across a more loving, and caring couple, and set of bosses who go above and beyond to help students like Jeffrey and me develop into mini-corporates. Waking up every morning, knowing that we are going to a place that is helping us grow is truly gratifying and satisfying.
So, next summer, if you are determined and ambitious, definitely try applying to SCIP: the Selective Corporate Internship Program. You'll truly appreciate the experience, and emerge with an in-depth understanding of what it is like to work in a Wall Street or Midtown Manhattan company.
