SCIP Alumni Rising Stars - Where Are They Now? 

 

Wilbert Davis

Senior, Hofstra University’s Honors College, Major Journalism and Political Science

SCIP Class of 2014

Wilbert (“Wil”) K. Davis is a rising senior at Hofstra University’s Honors College. Wil is currently double majoring in journalism and political science. He was one of the 15 scholars selected by the  American Political Science Association to participate in the Ralph Bunche Summer Institute, an intensive 5-week program at Duke University over the summer.  In the Fall of 2017, Wil was initiated into the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. through the Xi Psi Chapter where he has served as the chapter president since the Spring of 2018. In February 2019, he was awarded the Young Drum Major Award by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, Eta Theta Lambda Chapter for his community service and academic achievement. Wil was a summer intern (2015 - 2017) at the Selective Corporate Internship Program (“SCIP”) located in New York City and was selected as team leader his last two summers. During the summer of 2018, Wil started as a team member at NBC Universal working as an intern for MSNBC host, Alex Witt, which was extended through the spring of 2019. After graduation, Wil plans on pursuing his law degree and his doctoral degree in political science. He also aspires to be a political analyst at a major station and eventually run for political office.

Emely Jorge

Junior, Manhattan Bridges High School

SCIP Class of 2016

Emely is a high achieving Junior at Manhattan Bridges High School gaining the knowledge of coding and programming.  Born in the Dominican Republic, she moved to Manhattan at age 11. In addition to SCIP’s Fellows Program, Emely is a part of several programs and organizations, including NYPD Explorers, the Red Cross, and the Student Government Association.

Ravin Harduarsingh

Junior, CUNY Baruch College, Finance Major

SCIP Class of 2013

Ravin, a SCIP Senior Team Leader, is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance with plans to also earn an MBA.  As part of an advanced high school program, Ravin completed his Associates Degree at CUNY New York City College of Technology in Liberal Arts and Sciences, on a full scholarship, and graduated high school within three years.  Passionate about finance, he learned to trade using a simulated trading account, understood how financial markets function, and implemented technical analysis as young as 15 years old.

Sharif Bennett

Client Representative, IBM

SCIP Class of 1999

Sharif is from Nyack, NY and since being a part of SCIP has lived in Chicago, Virginia, California, Egypt, the Philadelphia region, and now Atlanta. After completing his MBA full-time in 2015, he joined IBM as a Client Representative. In this role he helps coordinate the sale of IBM software, hardware, and services to his client.

Rima Abdelkader

Employed at: NBC News

Job Title: Journalist

SCIP Class of 2000

Rima Abdelkader is a New York-based multimedia journalist. She works at NBC News with the television newsmagazine program “Rock Center with Brian Williams”. Before joining NBC, she taught social media and convergence at New School University. She also did web editing and reporting for Women’s e-News, and helped with a new product launch for Bloomberg. Abdelkader is a graduate of the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, and volunteers her time as a social media coach to aspiring journalists. Abdelkader is also a board member of the Arab and Middle Eastern Journalists Association, and an active member of the New York Women in Communications, Inc. She has been an instrumental member of the SCIP leadership team. She elevated herself from intern to project leader in a span of a few years before pursuing her career. Abdelkader thanks SCIP for exposing her to the journalism field during a site visit to NBC. Little did she know she would be working there years later, and would give a tour to another emerging class of SCIP leaders.

Francois Cedoit

Employed at: PricewaterhouseCoopers

Job Title: Auditor

SCIP Class of 2005

Francois is a proud graduate of the SCIP class of 2005. It is through the SCIP program that Francois was exposed to the field of accountancy. He pursued this interest later on after being accepted to Baruch College, part of the Macaulay Honours Program. He graduated cum laude from Baruch in June 2010 with a BBA in Accountancy and with minors in French, and New York City Studies. As a member of the Macaulay Honours Program at Baruch, he attended various events at the CUNY Graduate Centre focused on the future of NYC sustainability, the arts and other initiatives. As part of the Honours program, he also participated in various volunteering events such as the MSABC Walk, the Colon Cancer Challenge, the MS Climb to the Top event, a conference for the visually impaired. Francois was admitted to the Phi Eta Sigma Honours Society his freshman year for academic excellence. He spent a month during the summer of 2009 studying abroad in Paris, France, earning a B2 Certification in French Proficiency. Francois has come a long way and is now an auditor with PricewaterhouseCoopers, or PwC, one of the Big Four accounting firms. Prior to PwC he was an intern at Apollo Global Management, and before that, an accounts receivable clerk. He currently serves as Assistant Youth Director at his local church. His other interests include playing the piano, and keeping up-to-date with the sports world. Francois will be forever grateful to SCIP and his experiences there. “SCIP helped to avoid indecision in college because I knew what I wanted to do from the outset. The corporate exposure from an early stage in my life steered me towards a path of success.

 

Bradley Chukwuma

Employed at: Fox 5 News - New York 

Job Title: Staff Accountant

SCIP Class of 2005

 

Born in the Bronx and raised in Long Island Bradley is a hard working and dedicated individual who has a deep passion for his career. The son of two Nigerian Immigrants, Bradley credits his cultural background for embracing the values of humility and acceptance of others despite their cultural differences. It was his academics and leadership that landed him a full-tuition scholarship to Babson College, the #1 school in the world for Entrepreneurship. Bradley has his Bachelor‘s Degree in Accounting and was a manager at the IRS VITA Program for 3 tax seasons before his current position as a staff accountant at FOX 5 for over a year. Bradley has successfully passed two of the four exams necessary to attain his CPA license and expects to complete the other two before the end of the year. With the challenges that he faced during his work experience, the skills that he acquired during SCIP helped him to stand out in his current career. Such skills include public speaking, time management, and business etiquette. This group of vital skills has helped Bradley to excel at FOX 5. One of Bradley’s strengths is “…being a social person. I know how to interact with co-workers and executives and it often helps me to get favors and favorable or more important assignments that allow me to prove myself beyond my job description.” Since his summer internship with SCIP, Bradley has gone on to achieve much more. Because of the strong influence that SCIP had in his own life, he has since been an active alum gives back to the program. He not only mentors the young interns, but also participates in planning events and trips. The SCIP interns greatly appreciate Bradley’s advice and life lessons that they will be able to learn from and apply to their successful futures.

 

Mark Mancebo 

Employed at: Major League Baseball

Job Title: Intern - Corporate Offices

SCIP Class of 2010

 

Mark Mancebo is the son of the Co-Founders of the Selective Corporate Internship Program, he can certainly serve as a rising star alumni. Mark was a 2005 alumni of SCIP, he committed himself to SCIP and hasn’t forgotten where he came from. With new interns entering SCIP annually, he gives back to his community by guiding them with long life advice. He encourages them to be the best they can be as professional future leaders. Inherited by his wonderful parents, Mark has a philanthropic spirit. Interns can always turn to him if they need help with anything. Throughout the past 17 years, Mark Mancebo has been blessed to see SCIP grow to be the best in creating a new generations of leaders. Mark says that his experience with SCIP has been life changing. It has given him exposure to different industries that are global in size and scope. He has also developed the skill set of being a team player while in the program. Mark also states, that he only plays to win. Mark is currently an intern at Major League Baseball (MLB) corporate offices. SCIP has provided him with invaluable exposure to the business world. In addition SCIP has taught him the importance and values of developing a professional network. Some of Mark’s core responsibilities now are event planning, and excel reporting, which clearly demonstrates his attention to detail which is one of SCIP’s main focus. Mark Mancebo also loves to create music and play basketball. A future goal that he is aspiring to achieve is to graduate in Sports Management at Rutgers University. Mark’s long-term objective is to build SCIP into a global entity. SCIP was a holistic experience for me, he said. It focused on developing the whole man and woman from stand up presentation, leadership development, dressing for success, team building, and project management. Mark’s dedication and hard work got him into the University of Pennsylvania, also known as Penn State. He will now be matriculating into Rutgers University in the fall.
